I am a biologist based in Utrecht, The Netherlands. My pronouns are she/her. I am currently a Research Data Management Specialist at DANS (Data Archiving and Networked Services), an institute of the KNAW and NWO. Previously, I was a guest researcher in the Laboratory of Genetics at Wageningen University (Netherlands), for a project on environmental DNA and detecting agricultural pests. I have a PhD in Genetics from Wageningen University (2020) in the realm of insect genomics. You can find more details on my past projects in the Research page.
While I primarily work as a specialist in research data management and training, I also give seminars and workshops on disability and ableism within academia. These workshops are informed by both my own lived experience as a disabled/chronically ill person, as well as the lived experience of others within the academic and/or Dutch experience, all with an intersectional approach. The long term goal is to give these workshops across the Netherlands to both inform my peers of ableism within science as well as to push for institutional change with respects to diversity and inclusion within academia and science. In order to do this and other things, like teaching online and coordinating online conferences, hosting pub quizzes, and giving walking/rolling tours of Utrecht, I have a side business: KBF Consulting.
Originally from Canada, I moved to Europe in 2012 and have been living and working in The Netherlands since 2015.
